Umpqua River Spring Chinook Harvest Closed Due to extremely low returns, the harvest of wild spring Chinook salmon in the mainstream and North Fork of the Umpqua River has been closed until July 1, 2025. The Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife (ODFW) announced the closure to protect the declining wild salmon populations, marking the third year of severe harvest restrictions. Factors contributing to this decline include climate change, warming oceans, loss of rearing habitat, and the overstocking of hatchery Pink and Chum salmon in the North Pacific Ocean.
